Paint Chip Turkey

I am sure by now you have seen your first Christmas commercial or been to a store that is already fully stocked with holiday spirit….. BUT I REFUSE TO SKIP THANKSGIVING!!! I am sorry, it is as if Thanksgiving has become the neglected step child of the holidays. Forgive me for not rushing to deck the halls, but I like Thanksgiving…. the whole being grateful for the things you have idea… the turkey, mashed tators, homemade bread. Let us not in our haste to Christmas, miss out on a truly wonderful holiday!

So to get everyone in the mood and to start thinking Thanksgiving I have come up with a little craft…. A paint chip toilet paper tube turkey. That’s right, we raided the paint department at a local home improvement store (hey those things are free man!!!) and we made a cute little guy to decorate our home.

We cut the multi colored paint chips to remove the names of the colors. Then we simply glued them to a toilet paper tube (you know you probably have one right now in your bathroom trash.) Next we added wiggle eyes, a paper beak and as the oldest country kid calls it, a gobbler, made from a piece of red pipe cleaner. I think Mr. Turkey is looking very colorful this year and adds such a great touch of whimsy to our decorations.

Total cost of this cute little guy was zip, zero, zilch, as we had all the things already on hand! Yes, I pick up stacks of paint chips from time to time! Hey, you never know what you can use those things for! Just saying…..

  1. How cute! Thanksgiving is actually my favorite holiday. It focuses on gratitude. and is so less commercial…

  2. Cute! I am totally stealing this idea for kids' crafts at work! (I'm a children's librarian)

Also, so agree about Thanksgiving. Even though I did start to read some Christmas-themed books and listen to some Christmas music, Thanksgiving is my next favorite holiday after Christmas, so I hate seeing it slighted too. It's such an important holiday, in my opinion, too – because it asks us to reflect on our blessings and gets us into a good attitude and right frame of mind before Christmas is the glut of consumerism it has become. It's a real shame that we don't take that time to to thank God for all our daily blessings anymore and instead just go after more more more "stuff".

    1. Steal away LOL Would love to see photos!!! (you can alway post them on my Facebook or email them)

  3. How fun are these little guys?! I must admit that I am ready for Christmas to get here, but I still love this season and getting ready for Thanksgiving! My kiddos will love this fun craft 🙂 Thanks for sharing at Share Your Stuff Tuesdays!

  14. Fist bump for Thanksgiving. This is so cute! I have a TON of toilet paper rolls saved because I knew they'd come in handy with some sort of crafty project for my kids. Just found what I'm going to use some of them on! (Stopping by from Teach Me Tuesday.)

  15. This is very cute and I also love Thanksgiving. I refuse to put up any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving and I will not be writing any posts on Christmas things until after it as well. Last year my son and I made decorations for our Thanksgiving Day table and we are going to do it again. We may have to do something like this for the table this year. Thanks for sharing.

  16. That is so darn cute! My little guy will love making that. Pinned it. Found your blog on Motivation Monday blog hop and started following on Google +.
