Amish Style Cinnamon Bread Recipe

Easy Amish Style Cinnamon Bread

Who doesn’t love some good Amish baked goods? I know I for one LOVE Amish baked goods! But a lot of the Amish baked goods call for a lot of prep work or special starters that I just do not have the time nor patience for. Thus my dilemma…. Either commit to doing the time, keep buying from the Amish when I could, or come up with a easy knock of version of one of my favorites to tide me over. Obviously, I came up with an easy knock off or why else would I be writing this!

This is a quick to whip up knock off of Amish cinnamon bread and let me tell you…. you might want to make two loaves… one fore you and one for the rest of your family, or they might just inhale it before you get a piece!

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a bread pan.

Ingredients
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter,  softened
1 tablespoons lemon juice

Now I bet you just read the ingredients and you might have found lemon juice a little odd, but combined with the milk, it gives this bread a buttermilk hint to it without having to actually use buttermilk. So your first step is to combine the milk and lemon juice in a cup and set it to the side while you measure everything else out. This will give it enough time to do it’s magical chemical reaction thingy. Once you have all your ingredients measured out in a bowl or your mixer, add in the milk/lemon juice and mix it all up.

Your next step is to get your cinnamon/sugar mix ready. I put my ingredients in a sandwich ziplock bag and just shake it up, after it is zipped of course.

Ingredients
1/2 cups sugar
1  1/4 teaspoons cinnamon

Now it is time to get everything in the pan. Start by pouring about half the batter into your bread pan. Next sprinkle around 3/4 of the cinnamon & sugar mixture over the top of the batter. Here comes the fun part, okay not really, but if you have kids helping you, that’s what you tell them… Take a knife and swirl the
cinnamon & sugar through the batter.

Now pour the rest of the batter on top. Lightly sprinkle the remaining cinnamon/sugar mix over the top but DO NOT swirl it in. This will make a yummy crust over the top of the bread!

Before cinnamon/sugar topping

Bake your cinnamon bread in the oven for 40-50 minutes, or until a skew tester comes out clean. Keep your eye on the bread as you don’t want the
sugar to brown too much and it will get hard and nasty and no one wants that! If it starts looking too dark simply put some tinfoil over the top!

Let the bread rest in the pan for about 20- 30 minutes before turning it out to finish cooling. This is a dense, heavy bread and if you try to turn it out too soon, it could crumble. Once the bread is cooled and you taste it, I promise, it will be well worth the wait!
