3 DIY All Natural Skin Care Recipes

Let’s face it, none of us are getting any younger. Let’s also face the fact, few of us age like fine wine. Now I want to go on record and say, I am NOT one of those women who really gives much time to beauty. I wash, brush and go. I rarely use makeup, but I am getting older and skin care is becoming more important to me.

And while taking care of my skin has become more of a concern, I was not all that thrilled by the ingredients and the prices of commercial “beauty aid” products. If I can’t pronounce it, I surely do not want it on my face. So what’s a girl to do?

Head to the kitchen! No, not to eat away my sorrows of aging skin, but to grab some common household, all natural ingredients, to make my own products! That’s right, your pantry has everything you need to have healthier skin!

So what’s “wrong” with your skin? Me? Well my issues vary depending on the time of the year. During the summer I tend to be oily, but in the winter I am dry. And don’t even get me started on the occasional bouts of acne. While I no longer suffer like a teenager, I on rare occasions sprout a lone, evil, large, red, icky bump that used to take forever to get rid of. While I am not vain, I do not like sporting Rudolph’s red nose!

Problem: Oily Skin

3 Teaspoons of ground oats
1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
1/4 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 Tablespoon brown sugar

How does it work?  The alpha-hydroxy acids in the apples cider vinegar help to balance your skins pH. The lemon juice has antioxidant propertie. The oats contain saponins, which are powerful natural cleaners, while the brown sugar works as an exfoliant.

Simply mix the oats and vinegar together to make a paste, then add in the lemon juice and brown sugar, mixing well. Apply to clean face and work into skin. Leave mask on for 15-20 minutes and wash off with warm water, patting skin dry.

Problem: Acne

1 green tea bag
1 teaspoon ginger
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Tablespoon honey
1 egg white

How does it work?  Green tea leaves are awesome at inhibiting cebum (the nasty oily debry that causes acne.) Green tea also contains antiโ€“oxidants, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, selenium, zinc, manganese, and chromium, which are essential to healthy skin. Ginger has anti-bacterial, analgesic, and sedative properties that detoxify the skin and reduce inflammation. The lemon juice has antioxidant property. Honey attracts and retains the moisture in the air nearby so that your skin isn’t overly dried out. And the egg white tightens the pores so more icky stuff can’t get into them.

Simply steep a bag of green tea, like if you were going to drink it. Let liquid cool. Mix in the remaining ingredients and whisk together thoroughly. Use a cotten ball to dab the mixture on your face and let it air dry. The egg white will make you skin feel like it is a little tights. When dry, just wash your face with warm water and go!

Problem: Dry, Aging Skin

1 Tablespoon coco powder
1 Tablespoon sour cream
1 Tablespoon honey
1 egg white

How does it work? Sour cream is a lactic acid that hydrates as it exfoliates. Honey is a humectant substance, which means it attracts and retains the moisture in the air nearby. And the egg white tightens and firms skin as it dries.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and spread cream across your face. It really is that simple. Wait 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water. Pat skin dry.

Check your pantry for all natural beauty ingredients!

  2. I was expecting you to talk about how wonderful coconut oil is for skin! I use it all year round, even though my face gets oily in the summer, too. And it's great for the freshly shaven legs ๐Ÿ™‚ And makeup remover. And as chapstick. I could go on and on. Someone recently thought it was a bit nuts to buy the large containers that I do, but when it's the go-to moisturizer for 4/5 family members (hubby isnt quite sold yet), AND I use it for cooking and in my coffee, ya gotta get the big ones!
Your mask recipes are different than others I've seen, I'm excited to try!

    1. I think you might need a coconut oil 12 step program!! LOL Put down the drum of coconut oil and back away slowly. Hope you enjoy the non coconut oil skin treatments as much as your normal routine.
