Take A Peek At Our Week Jan 28 – Feb 3

Take a peek at our week

It’s time to take a peek at our week!

Sugaring off started this week! We got our sap evaporator up and running! Mother Nature stepped back in and froze everything back over, but we managed to make about a 1/2 gallon of finished Maple syrup before she shut us down. I have to be honest, I’m kinda glad everything froze back up, because we had all sorts of illnesses running through our house this week and we were in no shape to haul buckets and tend fires!

I’m pretty sure I just had a stomach thing and a sinus thing, while hubby may or may not have actually gotten the flu. We aren’t “run to the doctor” kinda people, so I don’t know who was sicker *wink* But thankfully as I sit here writing, I am on the mend, and hubby looks like he will be off to work this week as well.

So what made me smile this week?

Fire in the sap evaporator
We fired up the sap evaporator for the first time this sugaring season. This is what we use to boil down all the sap we collect into yummy maple syrup!
sap boiling
This first batch was so sweet. I may not like all the work it takes to make syrup, but I do love me some finished syrup!
sleeping cat
Some days I really wish I were a cat, curled up, snoring away in a warm, cuddly blanket…… instead of yelling “put your shoes on” for the 36th time! Seriously over being a human alarm clock and personal motivator. Why do they always lay on the couch and whine?!?! Maybe I just want to lay on the couch and whine! Do they ever think about that!?! Ungrateful children 🤣
ducks in snow
And we are back to this crap…… Showed up one day, wanted it to leave the next day, but sadly it’s still here. Ducks are the only ones enjoying it…. crazy ducks.
Potatoes and sausage
When you just don’t have it in you to make an amazing dinner, because everyone always complains anyways….. Potatoes and sausage it is. Don’t like it, oh well, at least it didn’t take me all day to cook it!
Buffy the chicken
Why do I love big ol puffy Buffy? Cause she ain’t a morning girl either! Snow, cold, and early mornings are not on our list of things we love. Of course if you really want to see her look like she is about to kill, wake her before the sun comes up!
knitting humor
When you have that one friend who has a knitting addiction and she just keeps trying to get you to come to the “wooly side.” Yes I did knit, but no I am not a knitter.
Wanda the chicken
Wanda is looking surly! Guess she woke up on the wrong side of the roost! Time to just back out of the shed with no sudden movements…….
littlest country kid
Bless my little sous chef’s heart, he was trying hard to help mama make dinner. He knew I wasn’t feeling well. His knife skills need some work but he can wipe a counter like nobody’s business! We got everything in the crockpot for some yummy broccoli cheese soup for dinner. Then it was time to curl up on the couch and nap till it’s ready.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. Hope you’re felling better, and great photos! Do you happen to know who’s hosting the “Simple Saturday” blog hops, or did it go away? Thanks

    1. Simple Saturdays isn’t anymore. With moving my site and all the behind the scenes stuff we are doing for 2018, I had to make the tough decision to let some things go, for now the hop being one of them. It was a hard thing to do after hosting over 200 hops! One of our co-hosts, Sunny Simple Life, has started her own hop on Saturdays you should totally check out.
