Take A Peek At Our Week March 11 – 17

Enjoy this peek at our week!

We are still in the throws of sugaring season!!! This year has been steady and doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Since we have already made enough syrup for our own use, we are going to sell some of the extra. We are also going to make maple candies! If you have never had maple candy, you haven’t lived!

Spring is definitely working it’s way into our area. While we might still be dipping below freezing at night, we have the chirp of little chicks in the house. And, the possibility of other baby animals in a month or two is very real. Our seeds are sprouting…. It is the beginning of a fun and exciting (and busy) time of year here on our homestead.

So what made me smile this week?

Day light savings….. and I’m back to drive the country kids to school in the dark…… LOL

I love how they are looking at me like “We did good, right mom!?!” Or maybe they are wanting to know where the heck I am going with all their hard work!

Buffy would like to announce that the local Hen Layers Union 49021 has a surplus of eggs and is offer a few dozen up for sale. These eggs come from happy, healthy, free range divas. I have been informed by the ladies they plan to use the money for a flock trip to Belize this summer. Why Belize? I have no clue! I didn’t have the heart to inform her that none of them had passports and none of them qualify as therapy pets.

A few years ago we hatched out a little black silkie. My hubby loved that soft little ball of fluff, but it turned out to be a roo and we had to re-home it. I know how much my hubby liked that silkie, so I was going to get him some this year. He told me “I don’t need any silkies.” “I don’t want any silkies.” So when he walked in the house after work and his pocket was cheeping I couldn’t help but giggle. Someone who didn’t need or want any silkies stopped on his way home from work and some how ended up with two little chicks in his pocket. *smack forehead* Say hello to one of the two new members of our homestead…. that no one wanted or needed *wink*

Happiness is….. making maple syrup and then turning it into candy! We have made more then enough syrup for our family, so we are bottling some syrup to sell and turning some into yummy candy. If you have never had pure maple candy or maple hard candy you haven’t lived yet!

Once upon a time, there was a little dutch rabbit who had a thing for the mixed up girl on the other side of the critter shed. One day his pen might have not been locked up properly, so he jumped his way to freedom, crossed the shed and made his move. You see the pen she lived in was old and it would appear the acidity of her urine (rabbits always pee in the same corner of their pen) had rotted out a small hole in the bottom of the pen way in the back, unbeknownst to the humans. Larry squeezed his way up and into Lily’s pen where they spent the day doing what a boy and girl bunny do…. over and over and over and over…. Well, you get the point. So now we wait and prepare, cause we all know what’s going to happen in 28-31 days, right? So anyone need some baby bunnies?!?!

Heidi the Homestead Hound LOVES babies. She crack me up because she wants to be near them, but she will not look directly at them. She just calmly sits, waiting for them to come closer, then her tail slowly begins to wag…. She know they are there but just will not make eye contact! Like if she looks they will magically disappear or something.

The candy section at the sugaring supply store. I might have needed another mold. I may have a candy making problem! LOL But it is such a sweet problem!

We went to a home and garden show and the littlest country kid loved the Wizard of Oz themed garden. Melting… melting…. What a beautiful place to melt!

The littlest country kid also enjoyed the bubbles in this Wizard of Oz themed garden. He would have sat there for hours popping bubbles!

I can find ducks anywhere! Even at the home and garden show! This adorable flooding scene had to be, in my opinion, the best display there! They really made flooding adorable. I can guarantee you, it is not this cute. So glad we got the 9″ of water pumped out of our basement a few weeks ago when we had state wide flooding.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. Your posts are always so entertaining and informative. If we lived close to you would maybe take some bunnies. Yes it’s easy for me to say being as we live too far away, lol. (western CO, few miles west of Grand Junction.)
Love that garden scene at show, so cute. That was so cute about your hubby coming home with silkies in his pocket. They are so adorable.
I so enjoy your posts, glad I found your blog. And about your dog
    Happy Spring and Easter

    1. So glad you found us and enjoy what we do. I lived in a ghost town near Aspen for a summer many moons ago. I loved CO. Happy Spring to you. Get out there and grow something!

  2. Oh my goodness,I just loved watching your video! Chuckles all around to you and your family! I would love for my husband to come home with chickens, that was so cute on his part..right? or no? lol your little country kid is adorable. We had a home and garden show or was it just a builders show.? yeah probably. We didn’t get a thing:*( boo! We use to live in Michigan until we got the itch to move near our kids and grands. Hello from sunny South Carolina! Love your blog.

    1. It was funny! A middle age, gruff man, with a cheapping pocket LOL The home and garden show was basically building with a few nods to the outside of a home. As for all the loot, it was kids day. They had lots of freebies for kids…. adults? Not so much, *pout*

  3. We had lots of bunnies and chickens when I was a little girl in Missouri. One of my fond memories is being chased around the barn by a mama hen that meant business! I love your stories and pics! Thank you for sharing on Party in Your PJs.

    1. Our littlest had to learn the hard way with our drake who he thought was playing chase with him, only to be knocked down and beat up by a duck LOL Childhood memories are the best!
