Apple Hand Pies

Everyone loves pie… okay there might be a few people out there that don’t but hey, they’re missing out! I am not great at pie making. I hate making crust from scratch and the store bought crusts lack something. I can pull off a pumpkin or chocolate pie for the holidays but on a daily bases, pie making was not something that crossed my mind. That is until now! I can whip up pie in about 20 minutes and so can you, without the mess or the fuss of a “normal” pie!

Ingredients:
1 tube of crescent rolls
2-3 apples
Cinnamon
Sugar

Start by pealing and coring the apples. Slice them up into thinner slices and put them in a bowl. Combine cinnamon and sugar, like you would for making cinnamon toast and coat the apple slices with it in a bowl. Next open the can of crescent rolls and lay the triangles out like you normally would. Place a few (4-6) slices of apple on the larger end of the crescent roll and roll it up! Make sure you squeeze the dough around the apples on the ends leaving small open areas for steam to escape. I learned this the hard way when I made them the first time and all the juices ran out the ends! Sprinkle the tops of the hand pies with a bit of the cinnamon and sugar mix and they are ready to bake.

Another thing I learned the hard way…. PUT FOIL ON YOUR COOKIE SHEET. This helps the pies not to stick to the pan when the juices dribble out and it makes clean up a snap! Bake at 375 degrees for around 20 minutes. I say about, because with any baking, every oven cooks a bit different. You will know when they are done when they get golden brown.

Now I like my “hand pie” with ice cream, but the oldest country kid, who named them “hand pies”, like that he can grab one and be back out playing with friends in seconds. These are great little snacks to bring along on picnics or where ever you might wander! Since apple seems to work well I am off to experimen other fruits…. Enjoy!!!

  1. Very good looking. Unfortunately I don't do crescent rolls, too many nasties in them. Look great with ice cream.

  5. These look yumm! I've seen recipes similar to this before, where they don't peel the apples, and that just sounds gross to me. I could eat this version!
