A Week of Homestead Photos May 22nd – 28th

We had a battle for our porch this week as some raccoons decided we were their new hang out spot. While slightly cute, they got a little too pushy and we had to evict them for our safety and the safety of our flock. Don’t worry, no cute trash pandas were harmed during the eviction. They were just repeatedly run off till they got the point. Oh and one of them sniffed one of hubby shoes and almost fell off the porch backwards. I think that might have been the turning point in the battle! LOL

We got more of our garden planted this week, but with the weather being so hot and humid, we had to plant a little then run inside to the air conditioner for a few. It boggles my mind we had snow flurries just a couple weeks ago and now we are baking.

So what made me smile this week?

One of our visiting “trash pandas.” This one was very nice, never pushy,
and always curious. The other however had to ruin it for him by being
jerks. Yup, I just called a raccoon a jerk.

My sweet Cinder. She is growing into a beautiful girl. It is hard to believe that the smallest
of our new chickens will someday be our biggest as she is a Jersey Giant and will reach
her full maturity later then the other girls.

My ducky buddies. Always begging for a snack at bed time.

My dirty garden helper and his captive, Mr. Bill.
Mr. Bill is getting real tired of being loved.

My mosquito repelling gnome garden.

Even though Mr. Bill bit him and drew blood, he is still a happy kid
(who really needs to learn to leave that duck alone!)

Ms. Fifi. I love this feather footed girl.

My country kids. Yes, they made me push them on the feed cart.
Close to 400 lbs of weight between then and the chicken feed.
One day they will have to push my wheel chair *wink*

My furry faced friend, Anna.

Clean duck pool and happy ducks!

Redoing the critter shed. Yup it is demo day!

All my hard working men folk pulling nails so we can hang the new siding.

My sweet boys placing “Thank You” notes to the veterans in our little local cemetery.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. How very touching….your boys at the cemetery. You know public schools wouldn't teach them anything like that! You're doing a good job, mom. Ms Fifi is beautiful (have I said that before?)! Love those feathers on her neck! Oh, I just love all the pics! Thanks again for another great week! By the way, I got acquainted with meal worms this past week! Having heard you mention them, and seeing the ads on here, I was quite….uh…..interested….in meeting them in person! I was house/critter sitting. Had 3 dogs, 3 frogs, 1 Beta fish and 2 hermit crabs. 1. Thank you for all your kind words! I giggled about you mealworm meeting. Wanna come critter sit for me?

  2. Love seeing all the animals, especially the ducks….reminds that I need to get some again they are so much fun to raise but I could never bring myself to use the eggs. Your boys are adorable …poor guy got nipped. [email protected] Sweet Tea N' salty Air

    1. Why couldn't you bring yourself to use duck eggs? They so great for baking with!

  3. Such cute little animals, love the ducks, thank you for sharing on #OMHGFF this week, appreciate the visit!
    Have a great week!

  4. Wow…what a creepy raccoon! 🙁

Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!

  5. What an inspiring post. More parents should be teaching their children to have respect for veterans and for anyone. Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures. I always enjoy them.

  6. Thank you for sharing your week with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop, Mindie! I had to smile when I read about the raccoons. We were delighted when they turned up on the porch at a cottage my parents rented when I was little – and they were cute for a while, but as soon as we started to barbecue they turned a bit mean. We had to throw marshmallows into the woods (probably not very good for them!) so they would go away!! Love the notes your boys left on the tombstones – what a beautiful gesture, and what a good way to help them understand the sacrifices made by veterans.

    1. LOL Don't feel bad about the marshmallows in the woods. When I was little we used to feed them jelly beans! I'm sure that wasn't great for them either. Of course they will eat darn near anything!

  7. Poor Mr. Bill lol. Raccoons are feisty little critters that I try to keep away from. I Hope you're done battling for the porch! That's awesome that your boys left little thank you's for the veterans. What an amazing way to teach about Memorial day! Thanks for sharing with us at the homestead blog hop. Hope we see you again this week!

  8. It warms my heart to see people honoring our veterans. Thank you I would love for you to come share with us on our Blog hop starting every Wednesday. Please come on out and link up with us: https://www.floydfamilyhomestead.com/2016/06/08/homesteader-hop-6/

  9. Those "trash pandas" as mischievious as they are, are too cute. Thanks for sharing at Simply Natural Saturdays. Looking forward to see what you'll share this weekend.
