A Week of Homestead Photos June 12th – 18th

It was the first official full week of summer vacation around here and the country kids have been having a blast! My goal this summer is to give them a summer like I had as a kid. My hubby says there is no way kids today can have a “leave it to Beaver” summer, so I am going to prove him wrong! Who needs computer games and screen time when there is so much fun stuff to do!

As for things on the homestead, the garden continues to grow, the flock continues to hide eggs from me, and life goes on as normal. The weather has been all over the map, even pushing into the 90’s! That’s a little much for this Norther girl to handle. But I still did my chores, weeded the garden, sweated my parts off, and then feel out in front of the air conditioner.

So what made me smile this week?

We have been taking the metal detector around the property and we found this interesting flat, heavy piece of metal. There are no holes in it, and we think it might be an old file. We also found porcelain and broken bottles in the area.

This WAS my corn patch, emphasis on WAS. Now it is the hot dirt bath hang out spot.
Good thing they are cute and I love them. Spoiled little chickens.

My adorable Mr. Bill. I love this duck. If you have never seen a ducks tongue, look close.
Backyard pilots with their $1 plains = hours of good old fashion fun!

A clean pool means party time! Betty and Baby Girl got a little wild. Good thing Mr. Bill was on life guard duty!

The chickens and ducks have been hiding their eggs again.
Good thing the littlest country kid is a good egg hunter!

Ester was on an epic bug hunt. Guess fresh food is better no matter what species you are.

Hit the park for some summer fun. A little early morning rain didn’t stop them from using the slides. LOL

Baby Girl said she wants to be a car hood ornament when she grows up. A Rolls Royce would work.

Epic family fishing time. The littles country kid was thrilled to catch his first fish all by himself.
His catch and release needs a little work though, look closely at the second photo. Bwaa haa haa
Dive, Dive, Dive!!! Betty may be getting older, but she still acts like a kid in the pool sometimes.
Baby Girl was not amused by her mama torpedoing her in the butt!

The hens have finally stopped hiding their eggs!!!

After patching the pool, darn mice, it is up and open for some summer fun!

Summer time grillin! Yum!!!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

    1. When did homesteading become cool? LOL Because it is so glamorous to have a ham hanging from your kitchen ceiling in a pair of panty hose while it cures? Or the wonderful smell of burnt wood when you boil off sap during sugaring? I am going to feel so sexy then next time I roll a wheel barrow load of crap out of my critter shed 🙂

  3. Wonderful week! We have been doing some fishing ourselves 🙂 Thank you for sharing with us on the Art of Home-Making Mondays! 🙂

  4. Looks like you are having a really fun summer, Mindie. It's great to introduce your kids to more traditional activities and wonderful to get them outside. Loved the photos of the fishing. I used to love fishing when I was a kid. Thank you for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Hop.

    1. I love that our youngest is so excited, but he tends to catch everyone on the dock too!

  5. The duck's tongue…so funny! And all the goodness on the grill is making me hungry.
