A Week of Homestead Photos July 17th – 23rd

It has been a very long and emotionally hard week here at the homestead. You may not know this about me, but our first son was stillborn at 38 weeks. Sadly this week, my niece’s little girl was born still. My heart breaks for her know the pain she is going through. It also brought back a lot of emotions for me. I struggled, trying to handle my emotions, be there for her, and continue to be the mommy my boys needed me to be. I am doing better, but the blog has been quiet. Honestly, I just had nothing worth saying this week.

But one of the things I learned when I lost my dear Andrew is that you have to cherish the small things in life, find happiness where you can, and smile as often as possible. And despite the pain this week, I did find moments that made my heart smile.

So what made me smile this week?

I put new trim on the littlest country kid’s blankie.
He was so excited to have his soft edges back.

The oldest country kid learned how to sew a pillowcase.
He is taking it to the county fair next month.

Betty and Baby Girl are still going strong sitting on their nest together.
Look at all those soft feathers they have lined it with!

Mario the rooster (who is going to a knew home next week) likes to fly
out of the shed every morning. He does everything with style!

At Library in the park this week, the littlest country kid fell in love with the tarantula. Too bad hubby is scared to death of spiders. AND, I caught the oldest country kid, who is going through a “don’t take my picture” phase in a picture! See him in the background?!?!!

Mr. Bill stands guard as the mamas to be get an early morning bath.

The yard is blooming, full force. Look at all that pollen!

We got a new, bigger pool for the ducks. The chickens had to call a meeting to eyeball it. LOL

The ducks enjoying their new pool!
The best part of having to grocery shop with mom? The penny pony at the check out.
See a penny CAN still buy something.
Snapping green beans. Let the canning begin!

Family dinner at Denny’s (kid’s eat free night) catching Pokemon together.
Not sure why the Pokemon is on my hubby’s pancakes, but the kids didn’t care!
Not only did we catch the Pokemon, we caught a photo of the elusive dad person. LOL

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. I love this! Thank you for sharing! And I am so sorry for your loss. We had a miscarriage a few years ago, and there is nothing that compares to the heartbreak of losing a child.

  2. I swear chickens are more curious than cats! That picture of yours by the kiddie pool made me laugh. Thanks for sharing!

  3. HI Mindie,
So sorry to hear about your loss. I can't even imagine how hard that must be. Thanks for sharing your pictures except I really didn't like that spider one – I don't want nothing to do with them or be near those critters. Have a healthy, happy & blessed week.

  4. I love hearing about your chickens each week. 🙂

Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!

  5. I love your blog 🙂 I love reading about your (mis)adventures and the things you share. I am sorry that this was such a tough week for you emotionally. A close family member of mine had something similar but not quite as far along. It's not easy.

The picture of your chickens at the pool cracked me up! I love chickens. Don't know why but I find them beautiful. The cloth your son chose as his pillowcase was perfect (and adorable) and it came out great! Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us.

    1. Oh thank you so much. 🙂 It is nice to know people like what we are doing here.

  6. Mr. Bill is adorable 😉 So cool that your son can make a pillow!

    1. I am so proud of my son for learning so many useful skills (and some not so useful ones LOL)
