Bloggers are people too!

The internet has become a part of our daily lives. Whether you are doing a google search, looking for information or participating in social media for entertainment, the majority of us find our way to the internet on a daily bases. But do you ever stop to think about where all the information floating around out there comes from? Those articles and tutorials are the work of real people, just like you. Do you ever stop to consider those people who produce these works?

Honestly, many of us don’t stop to think about the people behind the scenes, but maybe we should. In a society so quick to pass judgement and comment before thinking, maybe it is time to ponder the source as well as the content, or there lack of.

Many times bloggers are amateur writers, like myself. You should always consider WHY someone is blogging when reading their stuff. Maybe someone feels strongly about a movement, has a love for fashion, or wants to inspire others to do more for themselves. What motivates a blogger to write will influence not only what they write about, but their perspective on a topic. Just because you don’t agree with what they write, doesn’t give you the right to hide behind a screen and type comments you wouldn’t say to their faces. As mama always says, if you don’t have anything nice to say, just keep scrolling.

One thing that bothers me about the internet is that so many people feel “safe” to act badly in their words. Remember, your comments are read by the real people who wrote the article and not everyone has tough skin. Maybe you misinterpreted what they meant and your cruel words can ruin their day. I am not saying you can’t have an opinion! Just be polite when voicing them. There is no need for profanity and name call.

Remember most bloggers are AMATEUR writers. We don’t carry editors around in our back pockets. Our grammar may not be text book perfect. We might misspell something or auto correct may work its magic. That doesn’t mean we are uneducated, we are just human. If it bothers you that much, send an email to the blogger so they can correct it, but don’t bash them in the comment section, it’s just not nice. Remember, we all make mistakes.

Real people have real lives. Yes, your favorite blogger is human. They have spouses, children, jobs, stresses, schedules and commitments. Sometimes we don’t feel like cranking out articles due to health issues or whatever else we are juggling behind the scenes. I know personally my blog has been quiet the last could weeks as I deal with health issues, ducklings hatching early and helping my oldest get ready for the county fair.

I would say sorry for the lack of content, but I’m not. *gasp* Real life comes first, blogging comes second. I don’t get paid to blog, I do it because I enjoy inspiring others. Some days, I am just not inspired myself! And that’s okay. I put my priorities where I want them. So the next time you visit a blog and notice they haven’t posted anything new in a while, instead of being upset there is nothing for you to read, why not shoot the blogger an email and express how much you enjoy their blog and that you were concerned because you miss them. Maybe hear that they are appreciate will be the spark they need. Maybe if they are dealing with tough times behind the scenes, it will be uplifting to know you care.

I know everything I have said here may seem like common sense, but may times when people are on the internet, they simple forget common sense. So the next time you read a blog post, remember, bloggers are people too!

  1. Oh hon! I’m so sorry you must have been attacked by one of the “trolls” ….I just don’t understand why people can’t “play nice together”. I’ve only found your blog a short time ago and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. I love your pictures and your humor and seeing all the fun things your kiddos do. And the fact that, in your busy life, you make the time to share your life with us – well it’s just been a blessing to me. Sending many hugs and good thoughts your way!

    1. Oh I wasn't attacked, well not recently. LOL I just felt the need to remind folks that we should all take the time to think about the real people behind the words.

  2. Some people are horrible and I totally understand. I try to put up at least 5 posts a week with nothing on the weekends most times but a lot of stuff wasn't what I started off the beginning but then I don't get too upset because you get what you paid for right!! I don't get paid and they don't pay for it but it is sad that you have to have a thick skin to put yourself out there. Hope things get better and remove any nasty comments!!!

  3. It really is too bad there are people out there that have to be rude. Just cuz you can't see 'em! Your post was perfect….and polite! I'm afraid, if I was a blogger (and not just a stalker) and someone got rude with me, I'd blast 'em!! Good for you for being the adult! Dona

  4. Very well put! Sadly, it is things like you mentioned that made me decide to remove the comments section from posts. 🙁 However, I do feel like if someone wants to have a genuine conversation or has questions they can use or contact form to email us or drop us a message via one of our social networking pages. I have found there has been less chatter this way and I sometimes wonder is anyone out there, but the contact has been more meaningful when it occurs. I enjoy your blog even though I usually just stalk and rarely comment! LOL

  5. Hear, hear! Bravo. I too am a fellow amateur blogger. I love to write just for fun. I love reading your blog, I live in Michigan and am a farm mom with two grown sons. Reading about your life brings back great memories.
Write when you can and know the readers who have to nit pick are probably sad folks who think they are being smart and clever, instead of rude and nasty.
Keep well and keep up the good work.

  6. I hope nobody puts a nasty comment on your blog or somwthing like that? You are 100% right and I think we are all guilty of forgetting that. Good point. As I say, if you don't like what you are reading, just close the page! #overthemoon

  7. That's awful…I'm so sorry. I've always believed that bloggers have cliques, just like in high school. It's sad. 🙁 Hugs to you!

Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!

  8. I enjoyed your post, but I enjoy each one of your posts! I haven't been attacked with a nasty comment yet, but I'm sure my day is coming. I hope I have the strength to just hit delete and forget it.

  9. I think posts like this are necessary! And it applies to social media too 🙂 I feel like some people think that internet world is a different world and "real" people can't see what they do on the internet. Some people are just down right silly on the internet. Anyway, enjoyed the read!

  10. Amen! I had someone one time point out a spelling error on a Tweet, A TWEET, fgs. I generally try to mind my p's and q's when it comes to blog-related social media and whatnot, but…I left him a curt reply.

  11. It frequently amazes me what people say on social media posts that they would never say in person! I guess it's the fact that sitting behind a screen makes them feel as though they are shielded in some way so they don't think about how their words are received. I think the world needs a little more grace and mercy and a lot less hostility.

  12. Congratulations! Your post was my Most Clicked at #OverTheMoon this week. Visit me on Sunday evening and to see your feature! Don't fotget your badge. I invite you to leave more links to be shared and commented upon.

  13. I've been really lucky and haven't had too much meanness but a friend with a super successful patisserie recipe blog gets all sorts of rubbish especially on facebook – honestly what is wrong with people once they are behind a keyboard?
I was taught if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing – seems like a good policy for internet commenting to me 🙂

  14. It is a shame that people feel a need to post negativity. There will always be a few of them. but lucky for us that most are really nice. Forget the others and focus on those that are nice.
Great post and thanks for sharing at Over The Moon Party,

  15. Don't worry about others they are only know criticize and make others low, actually they are low minded people. Blogging is always for fun. Thanks for sharing with Hearth and soul blog hop,

  16. I think a lot of people do forget this! It's so easy to write a nasty comment to a screen, but it's important to remember that someone was brave enough to share their writing with the world, a real person, and it takes guts to do that!

    1. I know! If you don't have something nice to say….. And if you have a differing opinion, that's cool, just be respectful in your statement.
