The (mis)Adventures of a Homesteadin' Mama

The knowledge, skills, and encouragement to homestead where you live. Down to earth and full of humor!

Homestead Happenings October 28 – November 3

Cold weather is moving in and I am dreading another long Michigan winter, I’m not going to lie. The older I get, the more I want to move somewhere just a tad warmer. At least the country kids didn’t have to wear snowsuits on Halloween! But I now the dread snow and cold temps will be here soon…..

So what made me smile this week?

This past weekend the littlest country kid and I took a surprise trip north to Mackinac Island! You can read all about our trip HERE.

Our “adopted” college daughter has the coolest classes! She is ultrasounding expectant pigs and play with horses…. Seriously, where were these classes when I was in college?!?! Guess I had the wrong major 😂 I promise you I would never have missed class if I got to go harness up draft horses and drive around! So totally jealous!

The oldest country kid’s school said they could dress up, but no masks…. Good thing this mama has some skills.

The littlest country kid all zombie-ed up for the schools costume parade!

The sandhill cranes migrate through here twice a year. I love seeing them return every spring, but fall makes me sad seeing them head south. Old man winter is on his way, the cranes said so.

What do college kids do for fun? Give cows their meds 😂 Actually they get college credit for this. So proud of our college girl. She also went elbow deep on a cow to check a fistula. This girl rocks!

I’m having a proud mommy moment…. Not only was the oldest country kid just elected Vice President of our 4H club, but last night he officially became part of the county 4H youth counsel. It’s exciting to see him trying to step up and take on more of a leadership role.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

On a 1/4 acre in a small town lives a slightly deranged woman who never thought she would be a Farm Girl again, then her son asked for a chicken! Welcome to my (mis)Adventures! My name is Mindie and I'm glad you're here!
