Homestead Happenings November 25- December 1

Welcome to another week of Homestead Happenings. It has been an exciting, cold, long week. We kicked off the week by going on a mini vacation overnight. We managed to find someone to take Heidi the homestead hound for us, and our neighbor made sure the critter shed was attended to. We drove 3+ hours to take the country kids to Great Wolf Lodge as part of their Christmas gift this year. We thought we were being the “cool” parents letting them skip school on a Monday in order to go, but it turns out Mother Nature stepped in with a snow storm, so they didn’t miss school after all because it was a snow day! Though we still had to drive home in the white stuff. Blech!

I know it is only December but I am going to go on record and say I am already over frozen waterers and trudging through the snow. But it is pretty and definitely getting me in the Christmas mood. Hubby and I even got the country kids a real tree! Why? Because hubby said our fake tree smelled like old people…. Umm I had that tree since before I had my hubby and if it smells like old people, it’s because WE are OLD people! Okay maybe not but the tree was over 20 years old.

So what made me smile this week?

On our way to Great Wolf Lodge, we had to drive out of our way to stop at Cops & Doughnuts – Clare City Bakery. Seriously, had to. This place is amazing and totally worth the extra miles. Don’t worry about the country kids, they’re just looking sad because I forced them to take a photo before I let them eat their donuts 😂
The we made an unscheduled stop at Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm where the littlest country kid fed a reindeer. He said that it’s face was super soft!
We finally made it to Great Wolf Lodge and hubby had to take the country kids to the water park (cause this mama just needed some quiet 😂) I have no idea why the littlest country kid is freaked out look up at the bear’s paw….. but then again, he is just being himself!

They made it snow in the lobby! It was just soap foam but it was so pretty and magical.

When I picked up Heidi the homestead hound, she was a little miffed about having to spend the night at our friend’s while we were gone. She curled up and began passing gas just to let me know how miffed she is. Let me tell you, by the smell…. she was very mad 😂
A little left over corn bread for breakfast is the perfect way to start the day! Well at least Little Sister thinks so!
Sorry duck-a-dos but snow play time is over for the day. Time to waddle into the coop and snuggle down in the warm straw. And try to keep the quacking to a minimum so the bunnies and chickens can sleep.
Awww! We got our first Christmas card!! I love getting Christmas cards and we hang them all up around the house to decorate with them.
“Look Mom, I got brave!” Or did you just get tired of everyone else in the coop hogging all the straw bales? 😂 Cinder didn’t venture far from the pop door but at least she tried! And yes she does have snow on her beak…. she was told there were snow cones outside 😂
I am so stinking proud of my niece this morning! She is a 911 dispatcher and she helped delver her first baby!! I know it had to be incredible hard on her emotionally, as her own daughter was stillborn. I know her little Ellie was with her, watching over her as she helped these new parents.
Hubby and I picked up a Christmas tree! It’s so big and fluffy!! It must have grown on the way home, because it was a little bigger than it looked when we picked it 😂 It takes up the entire corner of the room! Don’t worry, we have plenty of homemade ornaments to cover it!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!
