A Week of Homestead Photos January 10th – 16th

The cold weather continued to grip us this week. Can I say, I am just not a fan of frozen waterers. I mean I seriously dislike having to get my hands chilly trying to break ice out of water dishes. Inevitably, I get water on my hands and touch something metal and well, ouch!

Despite the cold temps, like zero and below, we did spend a lot of time outside this week. Why? I really have no clue! None what so ever. But it made for fun times and great memories.

I also tweeked my chocolate chip recipe this week, much to the worry and fear of the natives, because, well, I make really great chocolate chip cookies, so why was I messing with perfection?!?!? I am happy to report they turned out just as good, if not better then the originals!!

So what made me smile this week…..

You see this egg? There is something special about this egg. Really there is!
Buffy had laid an egg IN the nest box!!!! This NEVER happens!
Excess me Heidi the Homestead Hound…. are you on my couch?
And are those my throw pillows I made?!? And why on
Earth do you have the television remote!?!?!?

It may have been zero out, but after spending all day inside the day
before, the ducks were having “coop fever” and just HAD to get out
 and play in the snow.

Who cares if it is ZERO out….. A duck has gotta do what a duck has gotta do. I’m not exactly sure what
they had to do, but it would appear it includes sitting in the snow like a bunch of feathered idiots.

Chocolate chip cookie magic! Bigger, softer, amazingly good!!
I had a sample of a chicken treat, so I took it out to see if anyone would like it. After one quick
peck Grumpy Goldie decided it was all her’s and be darned anyone else who tried to get a scrap.

While I am not a big fan of air that hurts my face, I do love winter
because I can see who has been wandering through the yard.
I see cat, squirrel, and rabbit prints in this photo.

The oldest country kid discovered that when he threw a snowball at Heidi the Homestead Hound,
well she didn’t care for it! She proceeded to knock him down, pummel him with her paws, steal
both his gloves and chased him up a small tree. LOL

Someone decided to lay her egg in the straw bales. I caught her in the act.
In fact I caught the egg as it came out! Like in my hand!! Hubby looked at me
totally weird and grossed out when I told him, but it was amazing!!! How often
do you get to see a chicken actually lay and egg, let alone catch it?!?!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. Isn't it fantastic you caught it. Warm and kinda messy but still a blessing. Your dog has more fun than your son. Such a great little story. Kids have all the fun, then sadly grow up way to fast. Enjoy. Pictures are a lifetime of memories to share. Thank you for sharing with this old grandma.

  2. I always look forward to your photos. Love Heidi and the ducks and the snow! Thanks for sharing with us at #Overthemoon and have a great week!

  3. Catching the egg has to be the highlight of the week! Amazing! Those ducks just crack me up (I was tempted to say "quack me up"). They just seem so comfy in the snow! Great pics again, girl! Always enjoy them. Dona
