Take A Peek At Our Week April 8 – 14

Enjoy this peek at our week!

This week has been a week of tying up loose ends and trying to get back on an even keel. Our insurance claim is handled for the bathroom flooding we had last week (on my birthday no less.) And while we didn’t get enough to pay someone to fix it all due to our deductible, we did manage to get enough to cover most of the supplies. Hubby and I will just have to cuss a lot and get it done…. but not till like June. It’s livable for now, so we will get it done.

We are on bunny watch this week. Not sure if she is really pregnant or not, but I have given her a nest box and only time will tell. Speaking of babies, our two little Silkie chicks are growing like weeds and if it ever stops snowing, they will be joining the flock as soon as possible.

We have also started dreaming this week or our eventual tax return and all the homesteading projects we want to tackle this year. When I am done writing here, I will be placing an order for mushroom spawn and looking at fruit tree varieties. Homestead Hubby has promised me a couple trees for my birthday, if the snow ever stops!

So what made me smile this week?

This would definitely rank as my favorite birthday gift this year, even if it hadn’t been the  only one I got. While I was born and raised in Michigan, I have been a Chicago Cubs fan since before I could crawl. Through thick and thin (mostly thin if you know the Cubs) I have remained a stead fast fan going on 44 years now. I remember the first time my daddy drove us into Chicago to go to a game. I got a stuffed baseball I named CC. I loved that little ball of stuffing! When Harry Caray died, I cried. The 7th inning stretch would never be the same. We aren’t a “sports” kinda family by any means. The oldest country kid is about as coordinated as a new born calf. But I have been and always will be a Cubby. So, when I opened the only gift I got on my birthday and got not only a gnome (cause I ❤ me some gnomes, people) but a Chicago Cubs gnome……

Peek a boo…… Heidi the Homestead Hound had her yearly heartworm blood work today and I am happy to report she is 3 years clean!!!!! Happy day!!! It was such a rough thing to rescue her and then find out she had heartworm. It been a long journey to health.

April in Michigan….. It was a laugh or cry kind of morning! I laughed.

So after the accidental day of doing what bunnies of the opposite sex do a few weeks ago….. I gave Ms. Lily a nest box…. and it appears she is actually pulling fur and making a nest. Fingers crossed she actually has the bunnies IN the nest box if she really is pregnant.

Went to the feed store and this happened. I was wondering where the boys had wandered off too. Dream big, guys, because this ain’t happening. It’s spring and that means garden, garden, garden (well as soon as it stops snowing!) Mama wants a couple fruit trees, not to mention some berry bushes….. Who knew the feed store could be so dangerous to our finances!!!

Clean pool = happy ducks! Now if they would just wait a second and let it fill!

Spring showed up!! I shaved my winter fur, threw on some shorts, and bought an ice cream. I had to, it was forecasted to be going back down to the 40’s.

The oldest country kid survived his school field trip to Detroit. He got to go to Lion’s stadium as part of the trip. He is ready for his first press conference!

You are getting sleepy…. well he was till the drilling started and it was all down hill from there. This was our second attempt at getting his cavity filled. Homestead hubby took him the first time and the dentist got half way done and was unable to finish due to the oldest country kid freakin out. We got it done this time with lots of gas and focusing on peacocks, pheasants, and quail. I don’t like going to the dentist either, but I ain’t never been through anything like today and it wasn’t even my mouth! I had to talk the country kid out of his hysterics and the dentist into finishing because at one point the gas ran out and shit went south. So glad that’s over!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!
