Country life means the end of summer is haying season. It’s a time when you put up food for the winter months for your critters. But what about your human critters? My country kids love Haystack Treats, and no, they are not made out of the same stuff hay bales are! These yummy treats are just four ingredients of delectable goodness!
So put down the sickle, park the baler, and get to the kitchen, because it is time to whip up some human Haystack Treats!
1 cup of creamy peanut butter
1 12 oz bag of butterscotch chips
5 oz of mini marshmallow (about half a bag)
1 5 oz can of chow mein noodles
These haystack treats are so easy to make, you don’t even need your stove! Simply put the peanut butter and butterscotch chips in a microwave safe bowl and pop them in the microwave for 30 second. Now stir. Put back in for 30 seconds. Stir. You get the picture…. keep going till the contents of the bowl are nice and smooth.
Once it is smooth, add in your half of a bag of mini marshmallows and chow mien noodles. Stir gently, you are just trying to coat the noodles. Sadly my country kids (both boys) didn’t seem to know the meaning of the word when we whipped these up for you! They mashed the ever loving crap out of those noodles. But it got them in the kitchen and they still tasted wonderful.
Once the noodles are nicely coated (or in the case of my kids, not so nicely coated,) drop by the spoonful onto wax paper to cool. This recipe makes a big heaping bowl full, so if your family is not that big (less then four people), you’re not taking them to an event, or you don’t want to add 10 pounds to your waste, cut the recipe in half. They are so easy to make that if you want more, you can always whip up more!
