Darn weather

Okay maybe it’s just me, but it is MARCH in Michigan therefore there should be snow on the ground, right? What is up with the mid 80 degree weather last week? All I am saying is, not only is the weather messing up the natural order of growing, but now it has infected my son!

That’s right, my 5 year old is ready to get down to gardening. We have seed packets on hand and he is all ready to go push them into the unseasonably warm earth. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a nice sunny warm day, but this whole weather issue is just messing with peoples’ heads.

I tried to explain to him that yes, the trees are budding, but no we can’t plant our garden yet. Mother Nature would just loooove for me to do that. Then she would dump a last minute pile of snow and in the end, I am the one who would have to deal with the aftermath of non germinating seeds and a disappointed child.

So what to do? Fine my lovely child we shall plant, but inside and it shall be a small grass garden for the cats. Luckily for me, this has calmed his need to push seeds into something, for now anyway. Take that Mother Nature!!!! And so the packets of seed shall sit another week or so before I hear the call of my child to get planting again. How did I give birth to such a little farmer……..
