Dollar Store Halloween Centerpiece

I love Halloween, it is one of my favorite holidays. I love the decorating (not too scary) and letting the country kids trick or treat. I am so blown away by the cost of store bought decorations, not just for Halloween, but most holidays. I just don’t understand why it should cost an arm and a leg to buy, well let’s say an arm and a leg! Even simple items seem a bit pricey. And I know a lot of you out there are just like our family, watching every dime. So we are doing our Halloween decorations this year via the dollar store!

For just a few bucks, I whipped up this slightly creepy, but to the oldest country kid, TOTALLY cool Halloween centerpiece. What 8 year old boy thinks a centerpiece is cool?!?! My kid! Who need inflatable monsters when mom has a glowing jar of eyeballs!?! They are GLOWING eyeballs for crying out loud!

I started with a simple vase I had at home (which was bought at a dollar store on another holiday to make a centerpiece with.) I also used a candle that I had hanging around. From the dollar store (we shop Dollar Tree) I picked up a black creepy cloth and a dozen eyeballs. That’s right, I spent a whopping $2.00 on this project!

I simply draped the creepy cloth in the bottom of my vase to form a platform to rest my candle and eyeballs on. This way the eyeballs kind of look like they are floating in a darkened room. Next I centered my candle in the vase on top of the cloth, and began popping eyeballs in around the candle. Make sure as you drop them in, they are facing out. There is nothing worse then getting that second layer of eyes in and realizing one of your bottom eyeballs is backwards….. not that I would know *wink*

So don’t spend a fortune on decorations when, with a little creativity and a dollar store, you can make something even you kids think is cool! Heck, turn them loose with a few bucks and see what they come up with! They just might surprise you!

I removed the candle so you could see how we fit it all together.
