Take a Peek at Our Week December 17 – 23

Hubby has been on vacation this week and the country kids got out on Christmas break on Wednesday. Can I just say, I love my family deeply, but we should OT have to spend so much “quality” time together! LOL Seriously, I have head a headache since Wednesday night! And it didn’t help that the cat that adopted us on Thanksgiving is most defiantly a girl and went in to heat. The “songs of her people” are worse than fingernails on a blackboard. *sigh*

We celebrated Christmas early with my folks on Friday, due to possible bad weather coming. It was a rush to finish last minute homemade gifts and get all the baking done in 24 hours. But we managed to get it all pulled together. The ham was delicious, and the country kids were only mildly annoying when my parents were here, and overall it was a good visit. Now to get more cookies made for our little family Christmas.

So what made me smile this week?

Buffy was elected office weather bird for the day. She stepped out, looked around, and quickly went back
in to the flock to report that evil cold white stuff was indeed still present.

It’s a freakin Holiday miracle!!! Granny Ester hasn’t laid in FOREVER and that’s ok. I mean she is old and did have a prolapsed vent once, so we didn’t care too much when she stopped laying her beautiful bluish green eggs. Well look what I found in the nest box today!!!! All our other girls lay brown, so I know it is hers (or a really big robin snuck in the shed) I thanked her and told her she didn’t have to do it again. But I do miss her beautifully colored eggs. I think we are going to have to blow this egg out and turn it into a Christmas ornament!

Rise and shine, its snow waddling time!!! I’ll admit, as I get older, I waddle a lot more in the snow too.
I fear falling. Ice is my enemy.

“What do you mean by you don’t want to hear my caterwauling at 2am? I thought you loved the songs of my people?!?!” Oh Miss Ginger, the songs of your people are one thing. You are acting like a horny, drunken, college co-ed. I can’t help you. Our male cat is 8, fat, fixed and has no clue what to do with you. Just stop, please. Seriously, it is getting old. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in three nights. I swear when you curl up to sleep all day tomorrow I am going to stand next to you and sing opera just so you know how it feels. And trust me, my singing voice is not equipped to perform an operatic solo. Paybacks are a you know what, cat, and yours is coming. I don’t care if you are adorable.

And this is the evil eye you get from a chicken when your skip into the shed all “Good morning my lovelies” and she has not has her first cup of coffee. In my defense, she has never had a cup of coffee and maybe that is why she is always giving me dirty looks in the morning. I told her I would take it up with management on the instillation of a coffee pot with timer, but not to hold her breath because hubby has dibs on the pot.

Buffy was wondering if I would write a letter for her and the rest of the flock to Santa with their wish list. I told her it was getting to close to Christmas to mail a letter, but I promised I would shoot him an email. What!?!? You don’t have Santa’s email address?!?! She told me they were thankful for the new roof on the shed and the new nest boxes and roost, but they were wondering, if it wasn’t too big of a bother, if they could have oatmeal for breakfast on Christmas sprinkled with some tasty grubs. I told her that if Santa didn’t hook her up, she could always count on me.

We finally have the tree up! It has lights on it too! But the guardian of the decorations, well he said to back off, it was his garland and unless we wanted to feel his wrath….. Yes, I was nice and let him “kill it” before I took it from him. He feels like a big man now.

When hubby knits and your kid is a dork, things happen! And yes, he did go out in public like this!

The oldest country kid got let his inner artist out! His folk art Christmas ornaments are an adorable tribute to out flock. He made one for/of each of the girls! Top row: Ester and Wanda Middle row: Fifi and Buffy Bottom row: Cinder. I can’t wait to get them hung on the tree!

Winter weather – It’s cold here in Michigan. Ester walked out, turned around, and this would be a “nope.”
She headed back in the coop, cause ain’t no one got time for cold and snow.

When working on sewing projects, it is always important to make sure you have a cat to hold your fabric down and guard your pins. In all honesty, he was being a pain in the butt and really needed to find other entertainment. He didn’t quit understand the whole “please don’t attack the fabric” rule.

Oh someone has been VERY naughty! Remember those organic cat nip toys I made? Well I wrapped them and stuck them way in the back of the Christmas tree. Do you know what this is a photo of? If you guess Ginger at the back of the tree with an unwrapped gift getting high on organic cat nip you win.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!
