A Week of Homestead Photos February 27th – March 5th

This has been a crazier than normal crazy kind of week. The weather can’t decide if it is winter or spring. One day mud, the next a snow storm. It snowed so bad one day, hubby actually got a snow day off work. Too bad for the oldest country kid, we homeschool. No snow days for him! LOL

After that freak accident I told you about last week (getting a concussion from a cookie sheet) I thought I would have filled my injury quota for a few month, but sadly no. While running our sap evaporator, I tripped in a hole hidden by some leaves, while carrying a 5 gallon bucket of sap. I face planted in the mud and dog poo (gag) and was completely soaked by the 5 gallons of sap.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, earlier in the day the wash machine had died (with a load in it) and the oldest country kid killed the dryer by stuffing it with sopping wet clothes, so I had no clean towels to shower up with after my trip and fall. I just want to go on record and say I officially hate leap day and am thankful it only comes once every four years!

So what made me smile this week?

“Mom!! Do you mind?!?! I am trying to lay an egg here!!!”

I chopped the wood, started the fire, and got our sap evaporator up
and running. Time to turn sap into syrup! It’s sugaring time!!

Boiling down our maple syrup concentrates! So pretty, smelled amazing, can’t wait to eat!

I got my ducks in a row!!! Early morning water cooler chit chat.

Okay, so his shirt is too small (and a Halloween theme) and he
didn’t put a jacket on, but he did manage to dress himself and
remember his snow boots!

Silly, silly ducks! We were forecasted to get around 12 inches of snow, but did they care?
If I had let them, they probably would have been completely covered!

The snow plows were out in force, but even with their hard work evident all over their faces,
they didn’t make a dent in the 12+ inches of snow we received the previous 24 hours.

The littlest country kid, playing in his fort I made him, and all his amazing imagination!

Who needs a movie to have a little popcorn?!? Grumpy Goldie LOVES getting treats
in the coop to break up the winter boredom.

My three girls (Buffy, Goldie, and Ester) always make me smile. Little do they know, they
are going to be getting three little sisters this spring!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!
