A Week of Homestead Photos August 7th – 13th

I know I sound like a broken record, but this heat! Ugh. This is been such a yucky summer with heat and humidity that just make it unbearable to get things done outside. Lucky for us, there were lots of things to do inside since it was the last week before the county fair and the oldest country kid had lots of projects to wrap up.

I had to take a trip to the emergency room this week which put a wrinkle in getting fair projects finished. But I am excited to say not only did I get out of the hospital but I was able to get him to judging day at the fair! It may have been exhausting but it was so wonderful getting to see him show the projects he worked so hard on.

So what made me smile this week?

What an adorable little duckling! She was limping a little and was having trouble keeping up with the rest of the herd, so we brought her in for some relaxing quiet time in the hospital box. She went back out right as rain.

My ever dirty littlest country kid. Always dirty, almost always smiling.

The herd of baby ducklings practicing their bug catching skills.

Okay I wasn’t smiling in the ER, I was scared. Luckily it was just my
potassium levels were dangerously low. Easy fix and I didn’t die!

The chicken union trying to infiltrate the air conditioned house.

Beating the heat with some super yummy watermelon.

The oldest country kid showing his projects at the fair. He worked so
hard and enjoyed talking to the judges about each project he had made.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!!! The oldest country kid received 25 blue (first place) and 1 red (second place) ribbons on his projects he took to the county fair. He had 4 projects that received extra awards including 4 big ribbons and a plaque!!!! I am so proud of him and happy for him!!

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  2. Wahoooo Congrats to oldest country kid – GREAT JOB !!!! And your pictures were all smile-worthy – especially youngest's smiling dirty face — and the chickens waiting at the door — and that darling baby duck – and and and…. Let's face it – you always make me smile. So glad you're on the mend and will feel all better soon (except for this horrid heat!)

  5. That seems like a lot of awards. Was that one in the picture something to do with rocks?? My son is going to geology camp next week and that looks right up his alley!!! Looks like you are having a great summer (less the trip to the hospital and I hope you are feeling better).

    1. A lot? You should see some kids in our club! My kid only took 26 projects. Some do way more then that! Yes, he did a rock collection. His favorite are pyrite cubes. We go to a rock show ever year around his birthday.

  6. HI Mindie,
Great pictures as usual. I love the big smile on your little boy face. I think he should be very proud of himself for winning those ribbons. It sure has been a hot humid summer where I live too. Sure hope your feeling better after the trip to the ER.

  8. I'm so glad you are alright – how scary to have to go to the emergency room. Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop – it's lovely to have a little glimpse into each other's lives. Big congratulations to your son on his Country Fair ribbons!

    1. Sadly I have been seeing way too many doctors lately. But the good news is that hopefully after my surgery on Sept 1 I should start feeling a lot better.
